Dr. James Weger Allison

April 18, 2017 — April 18, 2017

Dr. James Weger Allison passed away on April 18th, 2017. He was born in 1929 in Flat Rock, Illinois to Weger and Garnette Allison. James graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS degree in Agriculture (1951) and Veterinary science (1952) and a Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine (1955). He was a well loved veterinarian in Lawrenceville, Illinois for over thirty years. James served the animals in Lawrence, Crawford and Richland Counties. He retired in 1985 and resided in Evansville, Indiana for over 15 years, then in Sun City, South Carolina in 2010 for 2 years and then at Southminster Retirement Community in Charlotte, North Carolina from 2012 until the time of his death. He has been much loved and will be greatly missed. As a veterinarian, James was an expert at diagnosing – remember, his patients couldn’t tell him what ailed them. A strong work ethic and a strong sense of fun were his trademarks. Some of his jokes were corny but you just had to laugh when he told them. He took a great interest in his family. Piled up in the car for vacations, he and the family set off for great adventures and made memories that have lasted a lifetime. James was ever the tough guy, working without a shirt in freezing weather while delivering a calf in a farmer’s barn. He also loved to be outdoors clearing out trees and scrub brush on his farm, and often getting his tractor stuck in the mud. Food was a passion for James. He spoke with pride about his ability to eat 21 pancakes at a sitting or 50 dips of ice cream during a contest. James is survived by his wife, Anita Allison, one son, James (Laura) Allison of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, one daughter, JoAnn (Dr. Richard) Weber of Charlotte, North Carolina, and one granddaughter, Ariel Allison, of Oklahoma City. His three brothers, Robert, George and his twin, John Allison, preceded him in death, as did his mother Garnette Allison and his father, William Weger Allison.
