Dorothy M. Decker, 87, of Marshall, IL, passed away on March 9, 2022, at Robinson Rehab & Nursing in Robinson, IL. Dorothy was born on August 19, 1934 in Potter Heigham, Norfolk, England; the daughter to George Spurge & Charlotte (Gravenell) Spurge, both of whom preceded her in death. She married James Decker on January 26, 1954 in Annapolis, IL and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1990. Also preceding her in death was her grandson, James Haenig and several brothers and sisters living in England.
She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Hamilton (Punta Gorda, FL) and Dixie & Mark Scott (Marshall, IL); by her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she absolutely adored and talked constantly about, Jesse Haenig, Tyler & Jessica Scott, Trent Scott, Gavin Scott and Gunnar Scott; by her great-granddaughters, Makenzie and Ellie; by her sisters, Anne, Wendy and Angela (who are still living in England); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy worked at the IGA in Robinson as a produce manager for several years. She never knew a stranger.
Dorothy was one of the strongest women known, growing up during WWII as a little girl in war-torn England and eventually boarding the Queen Mary at the age of 19 to meet her future husband, Jim, waiting for her in New York.
It was her wish to be cremated. A family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Bradbury Cemetery. The Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union, IL, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials can be made to support our veterans at "Mission 22", 694 N Larch St #910, Sisters, OR 97759, or envelopes will be available at Goodwine Funeral Homes.
