Dorothy Lami Magill, 82 of Palestine, IL died at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. She was born July 30, 1927 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Herbert J. Lami and Gladys Gile Lami. Dorothy graduated from DePauw University with a degree in Education. She then received her Masters Degree in Education from Indiana State University. She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority at DePauw, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and the P. E. O. She was a member of the Palestine Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the choir, a Trustee and and Elder in that Church. She was also a member of the Current Topics Club in Palestine and the Lincoln Trail College Foundation. She was instrumental in starting the Adult Literacy Program in Crawford County. She taught for 22 years in the Palestine High School and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She married Donald K. Magill on December 20, 1948 and he survives. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Debbie Magill, Oklahoma City, OK; her two grandchildren, Alison and Matthew, both of Oklahoma City; her two sisters-in-law, Carol Lami, Glen Ellyn, and Evelyn Magill, Palestine. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Michael Magill in 1990 and her brother, Wayne Lami in 1990.Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Palestine at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 5th, with Rev. Paul Phillips in charge. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 4th and from 9:30 to service time at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Crawford Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Lincoln Trail Foundation, the Palestine Public Library or to the Palestine Development Corporation.
