Doris U. Wilson, a beacon of joy and steadfast dedication, entered into glory on April 21, 2024, at the age of 87. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Robinson, IL, enveloped in the love of her family. Born on November 3, 1936, in Mount Pleasant, MI, Doris's early years found her family floating from Mount Pleasant to Evansville, IN, to Porterville, IL, before finally landing in Robinson. Here, a young Doris found work at the Parkway Confectionary, where she met the love of her life, Don Wilson. Don's mischievous ploy of always being behind in payment kept him returning to the confectionary, and fate did its work, weaving their lives together in a beautiful tapestry of love and companionship. Their union, forged on February 5, 1954, was one of playful affection and mutual respect, with Don surviving her as a testament to their everlasting bond.
Her legacy is further carried on by her beloved children & their spouses, Sandy & Stephen Livengood (Effingham, IL) and Mark & Winetta Wilson (Robinson, IL); by her grandchildren, Jonathan & Kerrith Livengood, Shanna & Ryan Webb, and Jody & Toby White; as well as her adored great-grandchildren, Talan, Oliver, Dexter, and Aydia. Doris's life was enriched by the love of her brothers & sisters-in-law, Robert "Bob" & Dorothy Randolph (Salt Lake City, UT), William "Bill" & Faye Randolph (Erin, TN), and Harold "Jack" & Ava Randolph (Robinson, IL), along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherished her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold C. Randolph & Eathel Maxine (Van Schoyck) Randolph, and her sister, Sandra Lee Alumbaugh.
Doris's journey through life was marked by her industrious nature. Following her tenure at Parkway, she found work at L.S. Heath & Sons before taking a pause to raise her children, who were the center of her world. She re-entered the workforce to help Don run his service station, which highlighted her devotion to her husband. Later, she dedicated many years as a press operator at Victor-Dana to support the dreams of her family. During that time, she created many lasting friendships and went on to retire in April 1995.
She ensured that her house was as clean and organized as her well-maintained calendar, which held every important date and event. Her house and her cooking are at the core of so many memories, as she was known as an incredible cook. She would single-handedly prepare sumptuous holiday feasts year after year. For Christmas however, she always went above and beyond to create special memories for her family, which included homemade cookies by the truckload, elaborate decorations and maybe a few pranks here and there. By keeping her family well-fed, she ensured they knew that they were well-loved.
Her time spent outdoors once consisted of cultivating a garden whose bounty she thoughtfully preserved, embracing her adventurous side through camping, and tending to her cherished horses and hummingbirds. In her retirement years, her meticulous attention extended to her lawn, as she spent countless hours on the mower, ensuring that her home looked just as spick-and-span on the outside as it did on the inside.
Doris's life was a masterclass in living fully. Her outgoing nature meant she could strike up a conversation with anyone, her humor and quick wit always at the ready. She was a prankster at heart, never missing an opportunity to share a laugh or a loving tease, and blessed her family with innumerable memories that will bring smiles to their faces for years to come. Though the light of her life has faded, we know that Doris isn't gone, merely gone from our sight; after all, she was a woman who put her faith in Jesus. For decades, she was active in church life, be that teaching Sunday school, participating in women's groups, or caring for children in the nursery. Her commitment to Dayspring Christian Fellowship in Trimble in her later years was a testament to her unwavering spiritual devotion.
Though we will certainly miss her, we know that, by the grace of God, we will see her again, in that place where death is but a memory and tears are no more. Until then, may her spirit continue to inspire us all to live our lives with the same passion and selfless commitment that she embodied every day.
