Doris Jean Wesley

Doris Jean Wesley, 96, of Flat Rock, IL, died on September 14, 2019, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong. She was born July 28, 1923, in Wabash County, IL, the daughter of George Preston & Elsie (Shepard) Preston, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Lawrence "Pete" Wesley on February 1, 1941, and he preceded her in death on February 8, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Randall Preston, Raymond Preston, Lorene Blount, Beulah Boyd, Richard Preston, Clyde Preston, Mary Parker, Ralph Preston, and Merle “Junior” Preston; as well as one grandson. She is survived by 4 sons & daughters-in-law, Larry & Peg Wesley (Flat Rock, IL), Martin & Cheryl Wesley (Blaine, TN), Lloyd "Pill" & Luann Wesley (Robinson, IL), and Harold & Irene Wesley (Cloverdale, IN); by 3 daughters & sons-in-law, Linda & Ron Smith (Flat Rock, IL), Shirley & Terry Wiseman (Robinson, IL), and Sherry & Mike Green (Flat Rock, IL); by 17 grandchildren; as well as several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Though she worked hard to help provide for her family at both Robinson Electronics and Victor Dana, her heart belonged at home. Even while raising seven children, she took great pride in keeping her house in immaculate condition. She was also a phenomenal cook, as evidenced by the fact that she could throw a delicious meal together from virtually nothing. Through her noodles, cakes, and other delectable culinary creations, she showed her family love...and how! Though friends and family will remember Jean as a very outspoken woman (you never wondered where you stood with her), there is no doubt that she loved with a vengeance. A woman of faith, she attended the Flat Rock Free Methodist Church for many years. We have assurance that today, she's in a perfect place, and will spend eternity along her Savior and all those who have gone on before her in faith. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 19th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with her niece, Nita Preston officiating the service. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
