Donna Guyer Dowell, 69, of Terre Haute, IN, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, IN, after a hard-fought 15-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was born in Robinson, IL, on July 28, 1952, the daughter of Edward and Lorean Guyer. She grew up in Annapolis, IL, and was a 1971 graduate of Hutsonville High School and a graduate of Lakeland College in Mattoon, IL. She lived in Texas for a short period of time before starting her career with the Clabber Girl Corporation, where she worked in the Corporate Business Office. Later she found employment with the State of Indiana DMV, retiring in 2007. As her coworkers will attest, she was always the first one to arrive and would have the coffee prepared, and the office set up and ready to begin the day. Donna was always liked by the people who arrived at the DMV. She had one customer who owned an automobile sales company who always had lots of license plate and title work. He would always ask for Donna because he thought she was the fastest and most accurate. She was always very congenial. She had another customer who once wrote a letter to the DMV expressing how nice and patient Donna treated her. Donna is survived by her mother, Lorean Guyer of Annapolis, IL; by two sons, Shane (Terri) Cook of Martinsville, IL, and Todd (Linda) Cook of Terre Haute, IN; by four grandchildren, Brittany Cook (Jeff Robison), Wesley Cook, Lakota Cook, all of Charleston, IL, and Edward Cook of Martinsville, IL; by three brothers, Charles, Ivan, and Kim Guyer; and by two sisters, Char Ellington and Mary McCarty. She was so excited for her first great-grandchild, Lincoln, who is due to arrive in March 2022. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Guyer, and her beloved dog, Mitzi. Donna was a long-time member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Terre Haute, IN. Her life stands as a clear testament to her faith. She had great faith in the Lord and did her Walk To Emmaus Retreat, September 28, 2007. She maintained a positive outlook and remained a pillar of strength, undaunting determination, and an inspiration to her family and friends. She deeply loved the Lord, and His light shone from her for all to see. Donna battled more health issues than many will ever know. She always did so with grace and courage, and only a few were aware of the silent battles she fought with her health on a daily basis. Donna always had a smile on her face, and to know her was to love her. She will be remembered by so many that loved her, and her life touched many others in a positive way, whether they knew her personally or not. She truly was a remarkable woman. She received two stem cell transplants at IUPUI in Indianapolis. She experienced challenge after challenge throughout her life, but she never gave up or complained. May we carry ourselves with the same tenacity of spirit with which she lived day after day. Donna loved fashion and always dressed in style. She loved to shop, and she always had the latest in clothes, jewelry, purses, and shoes. She loved to travel, especially to the beaches of Florida and Cabo San Lucas, MX. Though a private funeral service will be held at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union, a live stream of her service will be available on Saturday, January 15th.
