Donald Ray Thompson

Donald Ray Thompson, 88, Des Moines, WA, died on the morning of April 27, 2022, at his home in Des Moines, WA, after a battle with cancer. He was born on April 10, 1934, in Crawford County to Ted W. and Ada A. (Dunlap) Thompson. He married Norma Mae Knoblett on June 2, 1957, and she preceded him in death on January 18, 2018.

Don worked for several years as the manager at Hutton's Auto Parts in Robinson before opening, owning, and operating a NAPA store in Herrin, IL, with Norma for over 20 years. After retiring, they moved to Des Moines, WA.

In his later years, Don really loved the outdoors and spent many hours each day gardening, taking long walks, and golfing. Don belonged for several years to the Riverbend Senior Golf League in Kent, WA, where he made numerous Hole-in-One strokes and gained the Senior Championship Title more than once.

He is survived by his son, Gregory Thompson, Des Moines, WA; his two daughters, Carol Thompson, Des Moines, WA, and Donna and Dale Milam, Hutsonvillle, IL; his 3 grandchildren, Amber and Kevin Inboden, Robinson, IL, David and Ashley Milam, Cheyenne WY, and Jacob and Carmen Milam, Hardinville, IL; his 5 great-grandchildren, Hunter Inboden, Alexandrea Inboden, Parker Milam, Avery Milam, and Atlas Milam; his sister, Lois and Don English, Robinson, IL; and 3 sisters-in-law, Bernice Boyd, Wingate, IN, Betty and Richard Boyd, Oblong, IL, and Joan Knoblett, Robinson, IL.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, his parents, and 2 brothers, Charles William and Carl Lee Thompson.

It was Don's wish to be cremated and a graveside service for both Don and Norma will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 3rd at the Jones Cemetery, Flat Rock, IL, a time of visiting with family and friends will follow graveside services at the Flat Rock Community Center. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of these arrangements.
