Donald G. Gubelman, 78, the former mayor of Robinson, died at the Crawford Memorial Hospital Emergency Room at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2009. He was born February 19, 1931, the son of George Gubelman and Irene Baird Gubelman. He was the owner of the Eagle Shoe Store for 29 years. He was a member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church, Elks Lodge #1188, Moose Lodge, V. F. W. Post #4549, and American Legion Post #69, all of Robinson. He served 4 years as a City Councilman and was Robinson Mayor from 1973-1981. Don served 2 terms on the Crawford County Board. He was Scout Master for Troop #329. He was co-founder of the Eagle Theater in 2004 which was named after the Eagle Shoe Store. Don married Ann Devol July 15, 1950 and she preceded him in death on June 6, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, Christopher Jay Gubelman; and his sister, Rita Ann McClure.He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Susan Gubelman, Robinson; 2 grandchildren, Grant and Kelsa Gubelman, Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson with Revs. Dwight and Jerry McDaniel officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday preceding the services at the funeral home. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. The family requests that favorite memories of Don be placed on the website. One of his proudest accomplishments was appointing the first full time Parks Department Director of the Robinson Parks Department, and because of this, memorials may be made to the Robinson Parks Department.
