She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Jane Shipman; her son, Jimmy Ray Fellows; her sister, Wanda Miller Morton; and her brother, Jimmy Woodland.
She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Garred & Kelli Fellows (Riverton, IL); her grandchildren, Adria & Kyle Gaddis, Josh & Amanda Shipman, Danyelle & Adam Hylton, Brittanie & Brandon Sanders, and Heather & Chris Tresco; and by her great-grandchildren, Avery, Elliot, Desiree, Zophia, Vincent, Mya, Andrea, Kourtney, Camron, Brooklyn, Dax, Lola, Violet, Nora, Harrison, and Sara. She is also survived by her sister & brother-in-law, Linda & Melvin Shannon (Mt. Vernon, IL); her brother & sister-in-law, Michael & Anita Woodland (Hebron, IN); her son-in-law, Jim & Jeri Shipman (Flat Rock, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dixie grew up in the Mount Vernon, IL, area, where she began her career working at the International Shoe Factory and also waited tables at a local restaurant. The wife of a military man, she soon found herself waitressing near his base in Fairbanks, AK. Eventually, Dixie moved back to Illinois and got a job with Victor Dana, where she worked in production for 28 years to provide for her dear children. Anyone who knew her well would know that she loved them to the point that she could be nearly overbearing out of a place of deep concern for their well-being. Dixie loved her boys so much that she intentionally learned the ins and outs of the game of football so that she could relate to and bond with them. She followed their favorite teams (the Packers and the Steelers) and was an avid Peyton Manning fan herself (though the woman could hardly stand Tom Brady!) Her love of sport wasn't limited to football, as she was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan as well. When she wasn't watching a game on TV, chances were that Dixie would have a gameshow on. In fact, she would watch re-runs of the same episode to the point that she could provide an answer to every question!
One thing that could never be questioned was her abiding love for her family. Simply put, they were the center of her world and will continue to provide Dixie with a living and lasting legacy so long as they have the breath to speak her name.
