Dennie D. Dunlap, 67, of Lawrenceville, IL, died at 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, IL. He was born March 1, 1950 in Olney, IL, the son of Leslie Dunlap & Grace America (Coonce) Davis, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Briar Kinney. He married Deborah Lynn Dunlap on December 4, 1971, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Travis L. & Anisha Dunlap (Golden City, MO), Christel D. & George Richter (Freelandville, IN), and Sonia K. Kerr (Lawrenceville, IL); by eight grandchildren, Jonathan Kinney (Flat Rock, IL), Skylayr J. Kerr (Lawrenceville, IL), Brant A Dunlap (Pittsburg, KS), Shyanne J. Sechrest (Lawrenceville, IL), Selina L. Dunlap (Golden City, MO), Sierra M. Sechrest (Lawrenceville, IL), Tyra D. Kinney (Freelandville, IN), and Lane W. Dunlap (Golden City, MO); by one great-grandchild, Emma M. Lhota (Robinson, IL); by two brothers & a sister-in-law, Harold & Cathy Dunlap (Flat Rock, IL) and Leslie Dunlap, Jr (Decker, IN); as well as many nieces and nephews. Dennie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from September, 1969 to May, 1971 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Back home, he worked hard as a laborer, and was a member of Labor Local #1280 in Robinson. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Lawrenceville and was a lifetime member of the Lawrenceville VFW Ambraw Post #2244. Much of his time was spent watching his birds and squirrels. He also enjoyed coon hunting and fishing and working in his garden in his younger days. Family and friends alike will remember Dennie as a one-of-a-kind soul who wasn’t afraid to give others a hard time. He will forever be missed. A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock, IL. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation and will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Matt McNealy officiating the service. Burial will be held at the Jones Cemetery in Flat Rock. Memorials may be made to the Lawrenceville VFW Ambraw Post #2244 Transportation Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
