D.E. "Ed" Lytle

September 1, 1915 — January 14, 2020

D.E. "Ed" Lytle, 104, of Robinson, IL, died on January 14, 2020, at Timber Creek Village in Robinson, IL. He was born September 1, 1915, in Terre Haute, IN to James & Mary (Roberts) Lytle, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Elizabeth Meagher on August 2,1941, and she preceded him in death on October 26, 1979. He then married Wilma White in January of 1982, and she preceded him in death on October 11, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Martin Lytle and by his sisters, Ramona and Birdie. He is survived by his daughters & sons-in-law, Maryalice & Wayne Brush (Robinson, IL) and Sherry & Tyler Bush (Evansville, IN); by his step-daughters & sons-in-law, Debbie W. & Mario A. Martinez (Houston, TX) and Cindy L. & Mike T. Beard (Robinson, IL); by his grandchildren, Denise Bush (Lebanon, IL), Shannon & Joshua Bryant (Evansville, IN), Reuben Brush (North Augusta, SC) and Ryan Brush (Evansville, IN); by his step-grandchildren, Meagan and Bryce Hagelstein, Wade & Jamie Shimer, Lindsay & Brad Gnade, Kyle Shimer & Ashley Halston, and Camron & Alyvea Beard; by 5 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Ed grew up in the Terre Haute area, where he graduated from high school. Right out of school, he traveled with an electrician who engrained in him the principles that he would use for the rest of his professional life. At the onset of World War II, Ed enlisted to serve his country as a Merchant Marine. Following the war, Ed started his own business, Lytle Electric Company. When he first opened his doors in 1947, he had no idea the impact his meager company would have in his community. What started as a very small business would expand greatly over the course of his 33 years of ownership. In fact, Lytle Electric has had the privilege to have employed literally thousands of men and women throughout the country, and continue to carry on Ed's legacy of excellence to this day. Ed was able to enjoy a long and fruitful retirement. Much of his free time was spent out on the golf course, and few things brought him more joy than playing a round of golf with Wilma and his friends. He was also highly active in his community and was a member of the Quail Creek Country Club, the Robinson Elks Lodge, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and IBEW Local #725. A man of faith, he was a longtime member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church. We have the assurance that in Christ, Ed isn't gone, he's just gone from our sight. We who are left behind will never forget his one-of-a-kind heart and the generosity of spirit he put on display day-in and day-out. His family would like to thank the staff of Timber Creek Village and his caregivers for the wonderful and compassionate care they gave Ed in his last days. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery, where military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132.
