David N. Decker

David N. Decker, 75, of Carbondale, IL, formerly of Robinson, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on August 16, 2023.


He was born on March 2, 1948, in Salem, IL, to Melba Jean (Mann) Decker and the late Neil Decker. He graduated from Robinson High School and Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Art. He worked as a graphic designer for the State of Illinois Tourism Department and a non-profit organization for disabled individuals. He even worked as an art teacher for a number of years.


David was extremely talented and creative with his paintings and drawings and created unique, beautiful stained glass and masterpiece sculptures. He was very handy and could fix anything around the house. When he wasn’t creating one-of-a-kind pieces, he spent his time working on family history and genealogy. He was also an animal lover and cared for many rescued pets.


David was survived by his mother, Melba Jean Decker, who passed away mere days after her son. He is survived by his children, Saul Decker (Sandy) and Sarah Decker; grandchildren, Jacob Decker (Lauren) and Michael Decker; great-grandson, Luke Decker; brother Greg Decker; longtime friend, Michael Ellis; and his dog, Bentley.


David will be cremated in accordance with his wishes. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
