David Lee "Davey" Miller

David Lee "Davey" Miller, beloved husband, dad, grandpa, father-in-law, and uncle, joined his Lord & Savior in heaven on April 27, 2021 in Gardiner, MT. He was born August 6, 1946, in Flat Rock, IL, the son of John Franklin Miller & Dot D. (Nuttall) Miller. He attended Flat Rock Grade School before making the move to Robinson High School, where he graduated in 1965. He married Phyllis Bonham in Robinson on November 7, 1964, and to this union was born a son, John Franklin, and a daughter, Angela Lee Ann. On March 27, 1976, David accepted Jesus as his Savior, a decision that, by all accounts, changed the direction of his life. He was a member of the Robinson Wesleyan Church for over 30 years, where he held many positions but was especially drawn to the role of song leader. He eventually received his lay minister's license and was privileged to bless his community by preaching from God's Word. David found employment at the Texaco Refinery in Lawrenceville, IL, where he worked for 19 years before they closed their doors, at which point, he got on with the Marathon Refinery in Robinson. Here, he worked for another 19 years as an instrument technician before finally retiring. Once retired, David found life and great enjoyment in a number of avenues. For 27 years without fail, he cleaned the tabernacle and cabins of the Southern Indiana Wesleyan Church Camp and served in any other capacity he could. This season of life also found David and Phyllis out west visiting Yellowstone with their son in April, and in the fall, they'd return so that they could fish for "the big one". Back home, the Flat Rock Homecoming was a special time, as it often coincided with his birthday. Thusly, his beloved family would gather and celebrate with homemade ice cream and cake. April often found them together again, celebrating his granddaughter's birthday by way of a fish and mushroom fry. Christmas was another special time of the year for the Millers, as they would drive to Mahomet and set up camp in Ang & Morrie's living room, and for 2-3 days, everyone would enjoy "Grandpa's Famous Jambalaya". These were all great times, and he truly savored every opportunity he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren. They will remember not only his "Soapy Dog Stories", but also the love that he so freely gave, as well as the faith with which he walked for the last 45 years. We have the assurance that his faith has been made sight, and that he was met with the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant!" Preceding him in death were his parents, John & Dorothy; his step-father, Joe Hart; his sister, Betty Lindsay; and many half-brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Miller (Flat Rock, IL); son, John Miller (Charleston, IL); daughter & son-in-law, Angela & Morrie Mendenhall (Mahomet, IL); grandchildren, Dalton Miller and Drake Miller (both of Springfield, IL), Bryanna Mendenhall and Mo Mendenhall (both of Mahomet, IL); two sisters & brothers-in-law, Patty Potter (Flat Rock, IL) and Susan & Randy Burtch (Robinson, IL); brother, Jack Miller (Florida); a special great-nephew, Brandon Earnst (Lawrenceville, IL), who grew up calling David, "Poppy"; as well as several other beloved nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7th, at the funeral home with Pastors Gene Beard and Eric Harmon officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the "Wounded Warrior Project", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
