David "Jim" Collier, 87, of rural Martinsville, IL, passed away March 22, 2022, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. He was born January 6, 1935, in West Union, IL, the son of James Allen Collier & Carmen Imogene (Gideon) Collier. He grew up in West Union, IL, and was a 1952 graduate of Hutsonville High School. He would go on to join Ironworkers Local #439 & 22, with whom he enjoyed a productive and satisfying career for over 40 years.
Much of his time away from work found Jim outdoors. He was an avid hunter, to the point that he handcrafted his own turkey calls! In fact, he was able to enjoy the thrill of turkey hunting alongside his wife of nearly 67 years, Marilyn. He also cherished time spent fishing alongside his children and grandchildren. They often helped Jim stock his pond, where he spent many a quiet afternoon feeding crappie right out of his hand. Back at home, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved cat, Calico, who was a warm companion to Jim in the twilight years of his life.
A longtime and faithful member of Potters Hall Church, we are thankful that he put his trust in Christ years ago. Because of this decision, we find assurance that, by the grace of God, we will meet again!
He married Marilyn Shaffner on November 5, 1955, and she survives. He is also survived by his sons & daughters-in-law, David & Diana Collier and Scott & Jennifer Collier; by his grandchildren, Jamie & Jesse Snearley, Nicholas & Kelsey Collier, Jedidiah & Tiffany Dunnigan, and Geoffrey & Amber Dunnigan; by his great-grandchildren, Billy Snearley, Raegan Johnson, Bristol Collier, Barrett Dunnigan, and Addison Dunnigan; by his sister, Cleda Rae "Toots" Beabout; as well as several nieces and nephews and dear friends.
