David L. Godsey, 72, of Joliet, IL, died Thursday, June 7, 2018 at his home. He was born January 29, 1946 in Johnson City, TN, the son of James Thomas Godsey & Beulah Vashti (Sutphin) Godsey, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Marila Jean Hall on June 5, 1970, and she preceded him in death on October 6, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Godsey and sister-in-law, Rose Godsey. He is survived by his daughter, Shelly Allen (Racho Cordova, CA); by his sons & daughters-in-law, Brad & Peggy Godsey (Manteno, IL), and Bobby & Jenny Godsey (Nutley, NJ); by his grandchildren, Caitlin Godsey (Manteno, IL) and Ethan Godsey (Manteno, IL); by his sister, Mary Ellen Cowan (Graystation, TN); by his brothers & sisters-in-law, James Godsey (Joliet, IL), Richard & Claudia Godsey (Johnson City, TN), John & Carol Godsey (Jonesboro, TN), and Michael & Rita Godsey (Jonesboro, TN) Dave was a 1964 graduate of LaMar High School. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1972 at the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. Following his military tenure, Dave went to work for DeSoto Chemical, where he worked as a maintenance mechanic for over 30 years before retiring in 2008. Away from work, he could often be found outdoors, be that fishing or riding his motorcycle. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Dave Godsey will long be remembered for his fun, easy-going nature. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will follow and will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rick Hall officiating. Burial will be held in the Bailiff Cemetery, rural West Union, where military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, American Legion Post #69, and Marine Corps League Det. #546, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132.
