Daniel Roscoe CornwellDaniel Roscoe Cornwell, 77, of rural West York died at 5:00 a.m. on March 20, 2011 at his home. He was born March 2, 1934 in Melrose Township, the son of Ross Cornwell and Golda (Clements) Cornwell. His life€™s work consisted of several fields--farm laborer, Kroger store clerk, defense factory worker, traveling magazine salesman, USAF (3 years, 10 months, with 18 months served on Okinawa), he farmed for 20 years, 8 years for the Illinois DOT and owned/operated Cornwells€™ Sawmill for over 20 years. He was a member of the Marshall V.F.W. Post #5975, the American Legion Post #1130 and of the Melrose Church of God.He married Opal Graham on January 1, 1957 and she survives. Also surviving are his five sons and daughter, Danny Joe Cornwell, USN, James R. Cornwell, Annapolis, Bill (Beth) Cornwell, Toledo, Laura Lee Redman, Hutsonville, Robert R. Cornwell, Marshall, and Jerry J. Cornwell, West Union; his grandchildren, Graham, Ivy, Amanda, Tracey, Nate, and Cody; his great-granddaughter, Alexys; two brothers, Carroll (Judy) Cornwell, Annapolis and Larry (Beverly) Cornwell, West York; four sisters, Clema Cornwell-Stephens, La Porte, IN, Esther Cornwell-Drum, West York, Clara Cornwell-Bartram, Marshall, and Eva Dale Cornwell Heleine, West Union; as well as several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by one brother, Rex Cornwell; three sisters, infant Elizabeth Ann Cornwell, Barbara Cornwell-Galey, and Iola Cornwell-Thompson; two sisters-in-law, Joan Crabtree-Cornwell and Jean Strugnell-Cornwell; five brothers-in-law, Oliver Galey, Jean Stephens, Marion (Pete) Bartram, Edison Drum and John Heleine.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24 at the Melrose Church of God. Art Orndorff will officiate services with Danny Harper assisting. Burial will be in the Medsker Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Marshall American Legion Post #90, the Marshall V. F. W. Post #5975 and the West Union American Legion Post #1130. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Olive Cemetery, with envelopes available at the church.
