Dale Duane Holm, 78, of Robinson, IL, passed away unexpectedly at home and was found on September 12, 2024. Born on July 13, 1946, in Eau Claire, WI, to the late Alf Holm & Thelma (Peterson) McBride, Dale grew up to be a man of great integrity and kindness, embodying the Midwestern values of hard work and family devotion. Dale proudly graduated from West High School's Class of 1966 in Rockford, IL, and soon after, on June 24th of that same year, he answered the call to serve by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. During his tour in Vietnam, Dale was assigned to help provide Naval support in Danang, and his efforts earned him several commendations, including the Vietnam Service Medal with One Silver Star. Despite these honors, Dale remained humble, rarely discussing his time overseas. Dale was honorably discharged on December 17, 1969, after serving his country with distinction. His military service left a lasting impact on his character, instilling a sense of resilience and quiet strength that stayed with him throughout his life.
Returning to civilian life, Dale's work ethic shone brightly as he provided for his family through a lifelong career as a machinist. He was a familiar face at Rockford Products, where he dedicated many years of service. His career journey also included Illinois Tool Works in Itasca, IL, and culminated in a supervisory role at GSI in Newton, IL. Beyond the shop floor, Dale was a man of gentle spirit and boundless love. He was the proud father of two daughters, Andrea and her husband Walter Anderson of Loves Park, IL, and Tasha and her husband Jim Peterson of Rockford, IL. Dale's joy was multiplied by his grandchildren - Brooke, Seth, Symphonie, Johann, and Kat - whose accomplishments and adventures brought him immense pride and happiness. This pride was evident in his religious watching of his granddaughter's hockey games online. An avid sports enthusiast, Dale's passion for the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears was well-known among his family. He'd often be found cheering on his boys in blue, reveling in every victory and standing by them through every challenge. Dale also enjoyed the thrills of dirt track racing, a pastime that captured his imagination and sense of adventure.
Those who knew Dale best can attest to his genuine, caring, and calm demeanor. He was a loving and considerate soul who never harbored malice. His presence was a comforting force, a steady hand in times of need, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. So, as we say farewell, we hold onto the memories and the legacy of a life well-lived-a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength that will endure in the hearts of those he touched.
Dale is to be cremated, and a private family memorial will be held at a later date. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
