Dale Callaway

Dale Callaway, 80 of Robinson, IL, died at the Danville Veteran’s Hospital in Danville, IL, Friday evening, September 26, 2008 after an extended illness. He was born December 1, 1927 in Charleston, IL, the son of Sylvan Callaway and Edna McNamer Callaway.Dale served in the U. S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in supply in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired after 20 years of service in 1968. Following his retirement, he was in charge of grounds and maintenance at the Robinson Airport for 16 years, and then was the Manager of the Dollar General Store in Robinson. He was a member of the Palestine Eagles Lodge, the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, a member of the Oak Glen Golf Club, the Hutsonville Booster Club, and was a past member of the Robinson Moose Lodge.He married Louise Watson on April 1, 1953 and she survives. He is also survived by his 4 children and their spouses, Rick and Kim Callaway, Hutsonville, Tonja and Steve Sheets, West Union, Bret and Sarah Callaway, Hutsonville, Bruce and Tina Callaway, Hutsonville; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his sister, Beulah Beecher, Decatur; his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Karen Callaway, Robinson; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Emerson Callaway; and his infant sister, Chloe Callaway.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Gary Fasig is in charge of services. Burial is in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation is at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Hutsonville Booster Club, with envelopes at the funeral home.
