Cloyce Edward "Ed" Bunton

February 26, 1942 — March 19, 2021

Cloyce Edward "Ed" Bunton, 79, of Robinson, IL, died March 19, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born February 26, 1942, in Bell, CA, the son of Cloyce Benjamin Bunton & Mildred "Mickey" (Bergbower) Bunton. At the age of 7, Ed and his family moved to Newton, IL, where he spent his formative years before graduating from Newton Community High School in 1961. He would go on to spend much of his professional career working in the timber business where he eventually owned and operated his own company. He later found himself working in the coalmines of Southern Indiana until becoming a grandfather, at which point, he packed his bags and made his way back home. Never (ever) one to let dust settle, he continued working well into his twilight years, as a pumper for Crawford County Oil and B&D Resources and as a guard for Stewart Security. Most recently, he enjoyed his evening hours cleaning the offices and making great conversation at Tempco. Chances were that if Ed wasn't at work, he was out enjoying God's creation. Most of his favorite pastimes were spent outdoors: hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, picking mushrooms and digging ginseng...it all brought life to his living, but not nearly as much as spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. On the day his first grandchild was born, Ed's life took on a whole new meaning. Earlier years had sometimes been riddled with challenges and trials, but all that changed when he became "Popo", a title he wore with pride. That grandchild became his hunting and fishing buddy, and he would continue to share these passions with all of his grandchildren as well as his great grandchildren. Popo was always up for squirt-gun battles and giving rides on his 4-wheeler, but it didn't really matter what they were doing; he was delighted to simply spend time with them, sharing laughter all along the way. Though his grandchildren have been given a great gift in the innumerable memories they have of their "Popo", the legacy he leaves behind is the love he planted in their hearts. They, along with the rest of his family and friends, will remember Ed as a provider. He adored his wife, Sandy, and always strived to care for her however he could. To the delight of his loved ones, he always shared from his bounty, be that freshly-caught fish or freshly-picked produce. The same could not be said about the candy and pastries he hid from nearly everyone, as the man's sweet tooth was the stuff of legend! (His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the exceptions, however, as they were able to get their sugar-fix every time they'd come over to visit.) Though his family always had his love and support, it must be noted that Donald Trump had Ed's undying support as well! Though he was, admittedly, a stubborn and cantankerous man, Ed's heart was pure gold. He put these traits on full display day-in and day-out, living life on his terms until his very last day on earth. We who are left behind to mourn his passing do so with the peace of knowing that he put his life in Jesus' hands years ago. A longtime and faithful member of the Robinwood Assembly of God, we have the assurance that his faith has given way to sight and that his 79 years were but the beginning in light of everlasting life. He married the love of his life, Sandra (Churchwell), on October 6, 1973, and she survives. He is also survived by his children & their spouses, Barbie & Don Lachenmayr (Robinson, IL), Jim & Wanda Woodward (Palestine, IL), and Don & Sandy Woodward (Robinson, IL); by his grandchildren & their significant others, David & Brittany Miller, Staci & Paul Cesar, Troy Winterrowd, Brad Lachenmayr, Bryan Lachenmayr, Anna & Jason Hill, Sheri & Corey Mehler, Payton Woodward & Carson Inboden, Troy & Emily Wolf, Jayden Woodward, Brooke Woodward, Brandon Woodward & Alexus Miller, and Danielle Gregory; by his great-grandchildren, Cade, Coda, Camia, Max, Ava, Lucy, Leland, Cane, Baby Girl Hill (due in July), Mason, Lillian, Wyatt, Willow, Asher, Nolan, Carsey Jo, Lawson, Hunter, Braison, Luca, Clementyne, Ezekiel, and Cillian; by his brother, Tim Bunton (AR); by his sister & brother-in-law, Barbara & Garold Tarr (Lovington, IL); by several nieces, nephews, and extended family members; his best buddy, Mike Churchwell; and his beloved dog, Rambo. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brother, Steven Bunton, and by his sister, Susan Gosnell. It was Ed's wish to have private family services, and these will be held at a later date. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Robinwood Assembly of God Food Pantry". Checks may be mailed to: Goodwine Funeral Homes 303 E Main St. Robinson, IL 62454
