Clarence J. Bell, 93, of Rossville, IL, formerly of Flat Rock, IL died Monday evening, February 18, 2008 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL. He was born November 14, 1914 in Stop, KY, the son of Jerry Mitchell Bell and Tishie Ellen Clark Bell. Clarence was a retired Flat Rock area farmer and had farmed in the Rossville area before moving to Flat Rock 47 years ago. He and his daughters returned to Rossville in 2007 to live with his niece. He was a member of the Flat Rock Christian Church, and served in the US Army during WWII in the South Pacific.He married Ruby A. Mason on January 29, 1947, and she preceded him in death on August 3, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.Survivors include his 2 daughters, Donna Rae Bell and Mary Ann Bell, both of Rossville, IL; his brother, Artie Bell, Bloomington, IL, and several nieces.Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock, with Andy Thomas in charge of services. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Amvets Post #33. Memorials may be made to the Flat Rock Christian Church, with envelopes at the funeral home or mailed to P. O. Box 129, Palestine, IL 62451.
