Charles Lee Newell

Charles Lee Newell, 69, of Robinson died at 12:20 a.m. on November 1, 2010 at Crawford Memorial Hospital. He was born September 7, 1941 in Robinson, the son of Edna Hale and stepson of Dale Hale. He worked for the Robinson Street Department for 22 years and for Bi Petro Chemical for 10 years, and with the Crawford County Ambulance Service. Charles was previously a member of the Gold Wing Club, an avid outdoorsman, a pilot and an umpire for the Robinson Baseball and Softball Leagues.Charles married his first wife Iona York on May 22, 1979 and she preceded him in death on October 13, 1999. He then married Mary Wright on May 2, 2000 and she survives. Also surviving are his five children: Danny Newell, Pittsburgh, PA, Tony Newell, AL, Todd Newell, CO, Charles Newell, Jr., Palestine, and Lisa and her husband Larry Stewart, West Union; his two step-sons Bradley and his wife Lindsey York, Robinson and Brian Malone, Robinson; one step-daughter, Penny and her husband Lonnie Williams, Decatur. His daughter-in-law Lindsey York had a special relationship with Charles and was the light of his life. He had 5 grandchildren: Cory Williams, €œC.J.€ Calvin Williams, Dustin Williams, Wyatt Newell and Kyle Wright; as well as his special aunt, Pearl McGovern. He was preceded in death by his first wife Iona and his parents.Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Grand Prairie Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. following a visitation from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Memorials may be made to the Charles Newell Memorial Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
