Cecily Shipman, 80, of Robinson, IL, passed away on October 20, 2022, in the comfort of her home. She was born September 4, 1942, in Hutsonville, IL, the daughter of John & Vivian (Benjamin) Osborn, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly Lynn Shipman, on November 24, 1997; her brothers, John David Osborn, Jack Osborn, Jim Osborn, and Estel Osborn; and her sister, Dorothy Garrard.
She married Harold Shipman on December 24, 1960, and he survives. She is also survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Anita Swaner-Templeton & Steve Templeton; her son, Matthew W. Shipman; her grandchildren & their spouses, Bon S. & Brooke Shipman, Justin W. Shipman, Tasha & Dustin Hoffman, and Mitchell W. & Jesi Swaner; by 17 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Osborn, Thelma Osborn, and Annabelle Osborn; as well as several nieces & nephews.
A 1960 graduate of Oblong High School, Cecily would soon marry and dedicate her life to providing a warm and loving home for her cherished family (as well as her children's friends, who found a second home with the Shipmans.) An exceptional baker, her hands skillfully created some of the best Spanish cream pies you'd ever have a chance to enjoy, and her German chocolate cake was always met with ravenous expectation! Her cooking style was definitively old-school: always made from scratch and packed with flavor.
When it came to food, she had an open mind and was always willing to experiment. In fact, years ago, her daughter Anita would come home with new recipes to try, and while they were in the oven, Cecily would teach her children how to dance to 50's doo-wop music! As the years passed, she would go on to teach her grandchildren how to fend for themselves in the kitchen as well. That being said, each of her grandchildren had a uniquely special relationship with her, which speaks to the genuine love and care she so beautifully expressed throughout her 80 years.
Her dedicated, others-centered nature was displayed as her parents' health began to fade, having cared for them in the twilight years of their lives. Cecily would eventually do the same for the residents of Cotillion Ridge, where she worked as a CNA for ten years. She also gave of herself by preparing funeral dinners put on by the Prairie Methodist Ladies Get-Together Club. Through her affiliation with the club, she was also instrumental in creating costumes for various church plays. Having stitched together countless costumes and outfits throughout her life, it was apparent that this dear soul was a master seamstress. However, her best work wasn't made with a needle and thread but with the love that stitched together her family. They are her legacy and will recall her life with a deep and abiding affection, knowing that she is safe and sound in the tender arms of her Savior, Jesus.
