Catherine Irene Newlin

Catherine Irene Newlin, 68, of Palestine died Tuesday evening, August 31st at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson. She was born November 30, 1941 in Honeycreek Township, rural Flat Rock, the daughter of Arthur Van Winkle and Eva Brashear Van Winkle. She was a nurse for 31 years, 29 of those years at Crawford Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Grace Communion International Church in Terre Haute, the Lions Club, and the Palestine Eagles Club. She married Thomas E. Newlin on May 28, 2003 and he survives. Also surviving are her son, John G. Waldroup, Louisville, KY; her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Clara Van Winkle, McLeansboro; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and William Pippin, Robinson, Jean and Ed Catt, Oblong and 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Van Winkle and Rita Van Winkle both of Robinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, John and Bill Van Winkle; and her sister, Juanita Shipman.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, with Brother Bob McCarter officiating. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Grace Communion International Church in Terre Haute with envelopes available at the funeral home.
