Carolyn “Kernie” Bonesteel, 81, of Robinson, IL, died at 9:23 a.m. (EST) on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born November 29, 1936 in Robinson, the daughter of Charles R. Metheny & Ruth B. (Shonk) Metheny, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Char Harvey and Rosemary Oliver; and by her great-granddaughter, Isabella “Bella” Parker. She married Mervin Dale Bonesteel on May 20, 1955, and he survives. She is also survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Debi & Danny Parker (Robinson, IL); by her sons & daughters-in-law, Brad & Sandy Bonesteel (Robinson, IL) and Tim & Jennifer Bonesteel (Bargersville, IN); by six grandchildren, Jason Bonesteel, Connor Bonesteel, Amanda Parker, Christopher Parker, Samantha Parker, and Braeden Bonesteel; by 3 great-grandchildren (and 2 more on the way!); by two sisters, Norma “Neen” Brown (Banning, CA), and Jackie Lyons (Denver, CO); by her brother-in-law, Robert Harvey (Henderson, KY); by her brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Larry & Kate Bonesteel (Greencastle, IN); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carolyn grew up in Robinson and worked as a secretary for a number of area health providers: from Dr. Schmidt’s Clinic to the Crawford Memorial Hospital Lab to what was then the hospital’s newly-created Occ Med Department. Though she worked outside of the home, her life was built around those who dwelled inside of it. Carolyn’s family was the light of her life and few things brought her more joy than simply spending time with them. Though she was, by all accounts, a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan and hardly missed a game, the real thrill was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their various activities. Her sisters also had a very special place in her heart, and the countless hours of card games that they played together were times she cherished. Her legacy of selfless love lives on within her family, who have lost a not only a matriarch, but a friend and caregiver in Carolyn Bonesteel. It was Carolyn’s wish to be cremated without any public service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. In memory of her beloved great-granddaughter, memorials may be made to the Bella Parker Memorial Fund, with checks made payable to the “Crawford Memorial Foundation”. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
