Carla K. Norton

March 18, 1939 — August 9, 2020

Carla Norton, 81, of Robinson, IL, died on Sunday, August 9, 2020, in the comfort of her home. She was born March 18, 1939, in Robinson, the daughter of H.B. "Bibe" Warnock & Flora (Smallwood) Warnock, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Horace Noble Norton II on May 28, 1959, and he preceded her in death on November 26, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her son, Horace Noble Norton III; by her daughter, Flora Beth Clayton. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Laura Ann & Jonathan Collins; by her grandchildren, Brian J. Bane II, Christina Clayton, and Pierce Clayton and their families; as well as her dear friends, Sonia & Doug Bonnell, Kay Bonnell, and Cheryl Saad. Carla grew up in the Robinson area, where she barrel-raced horses as a girl before marrying Noble II in 1959. For years, they enjoyed deer and turkey hunting together, and she would have gone as far as to say that she was a better shot than he was! They loved hunting so much that they kept a cabin in Texas to use during hunting season. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, to the point that she was active in the local card club. She was also active in Beta Sigma Phi and Quail Creek Country Club, where she worked as social director for a short time. As she grew older, Carla found great enjoyment following Dale Earnhardt, and even had the opportunity to attend several NASCAR races in-person! This period of her life also found her camping, and she was especially fond of Sullivan Lake. She was, by all accounts, a private person. But those who did have the opportunity to know her well could attest to this one fact: Carla Norton was a spitfire. Simply put, she said what she thought and lived life her way. May we too learn how to live with such boldness and vigor. As per her wishes, Carla will be buried in the Robinson New Cemetery without a public service. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Robinson Fire Department". The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
