Carl T. Smith

Carl T. Smith, 91, of Robinson, IL, died at 6:47 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2009 at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center, Robinson. He was born February 13, 1918 in Robinson Township, IL, the son of James Allen Smith and Irene Bell Smith. Carl graduated from Robinson High School in 1937 and served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He worked at the Robinson Ford Garage and was a mechanic for the State of Illinois Highway Department. He was a member of the New Hebron Baptist Church.Carl married Pauline Mills and she preceded him in death in 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and 3 brothers, Charles Smith, Frank Smith, and Emerson Smith.Carl married Virginia Renchen Parker in 1992 and she survives. He is also survived 4 step-children and their spouses, Deborah and Leonard Goff, Robinson, Mike and Mary Jane Parker, Robinson, Danny and Debi Parker, Robinson, Roger and Donna Parker, Annapolis; his sister, Waneta McCann, Bloomington, IN; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Maxine Smith, Springfield, IL; several step grandchildren and nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 29th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson with Brother Jack Clay officiating. Burial will be in the New Hebron Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the combined units of the Palestine AmVets Post #33,Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549,Robinson American Legion Post #69, and Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 a.m. to service time at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.Memorials may be made to the New Hebron Baptist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association with envelopes available at the funeral home.
