Carl Rolland Robinson, Jr., 85, of West Union, IL, died January 2, 2022, at Twin Lakes Rehab & Healthcare in Paris, IL. He was born on July 1, 1936, in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Carl R. Robinson, Sr. & Goldie (Featherston) Robinson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, Anthony Todd Robinson; by his grandchildren, Vanessa Ann Robinson and Kyle Alan Jones; by his grandparents, Charles & Ethel Cook; by his second mother, Martha Needham Robinson; and by his brothers, Kenneth Robinson (in infancy), Charles Robinson, and Paul Robinson. He married Phyllis Misner on January 18, 1964, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Michael Wayne & Kim Robinson (Robinson, IL), Susan Elaine & Steven Rowland (Columbia, TN), James Douglas & Nicola Robinson (Louisville, KY), John Spencer & Heather Robinson (West Union, IL), and Frank & Glenda Jones (Terre Haute, IN); by 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; by his sister, Dottie Jenkins (Terre Haute, IN); by his sister-in-law, Martha Robinson (Oneida, NY); as well as several nieces and nephews. Carl grew up in Terre Haute, where, after losing his mother at six weeks of age, he lived with his grandparents, Charles & Ethel Cook. From 1953-1956, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, which drilled into him a regimented way of life that he displayed for the rest of his days. After all, "once a Marine, always a Marine." Back home, he found work with CIPS in Hutsonville, where he would be employed for many years before retiring in the mid-1990s. Away from work, Carl was an active member of his community, taking part in organizations like the West Union Ruritan Club. He was also a Scout Master for the West Union and Hutsonville Boy Scouts, and in this capacity, he touched the lives of innumerable area youth, helping to mold them into the men they would become. In much the same way, he shepherded many as a minister. Though he was a member of Eastside Church of Christ in Terre Haute, he preached at various area churches. It should come as no surprise then that much of his free time was spent engaging in God's Word. He also spent countless hours operating his Ham Radio, reaching folks as far as the Vatican! He also had a keen interest in photography, to the point that he had his own studio for a time. Those closest to Carl could attest to his love of fishing. He enjoyed the peace it provided, yes, but also the camaraderie of fishing with friends like Tom Heleine or his grandchildren. They were each the apple of their grandpa's eye, and he loved them like he loved the rest of his family: wholeheartedly. He was very involved in their lives and in doing so, left behind a legacy that will be felt for years to come. A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8th, at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will immediately follow and be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, with his grandson, Luke Gurchiek, officiating. Burial will be in the Hutsonville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the "West Union Community Club", to be used for area youth programs. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
