Carl Ramon Benson

Carl Ramon Benson, 87, of Robinson, IL, died at 9:21 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Arbor Rose of Robinson. He was born June 12, 1932, the son of Carl Benson & Serena (Latta) Benson, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Alice Mills on August 12, 1956, and she preceded him in death on October 5, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Benson and Jack Benson. He is survived by his children & their spouses, Kelly & Andy Bradbury (Robinson, IL) and Roger & Sandy Benson (Hidalgo, IL); by his grandchildren & their spouses, Shawn Marie Wood, Dustin & Lori Wood, Corey & Stephanie Benson, and Brad Benson; by his great-grandchildren, Draxton Wood, Wrigley Wood, Ryker Wood, Eli Benson, Tate Benson, and Adley Benson; by his brother, Jim Benson; as well as several nieces and nephews. Carl grew up in the Greenup area and was a 1950 graduate of Greenup High School. He would go on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War before coming back home to receive a bachelor’s degree at Eastern Illinois University. In 1960, he got on as an accountant with Marathon, and would work there over the course of the next two decades before retiring in 1986. In his early years, time away from work often found Carl bowling or golfing, and these provided him with countless hours of entertainment. Recent years found him enjoying coffee with his friends at Hardee’s or contently working numerous crossword puzzles at home. He was a longtime member of the Greenup Masonic Lodge #125, the Greenup American Legion Post #566, as well as the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2nd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Greenup Cemetery (Greenup, IL), with Rev. Tom Akers officiating. Memorials may be made to the “Alzheimer’s Association” or to “Arbor Rose of Robinson”, with envelopes available at the funeral home and cemetery.
