Carl Dean Hulse, 82, of Palestine, IL, died Thursday, December 10, 2020. He was born October 30, 1938, in Palestine, the son of Virgil & Alta (Seaney) Hulse. Having grown up in the rural Palestine area, he attended Adams School until it consolidated with Palestine Grade School. A 1957 graduate of Palestine High School, Carl would go on to serve his country in the U.S. Army as a military police officer. Back home, he tended to the soil of the family farm, and worked it until finally retiring in 2003. Though he worked hard, he also knew how to enjoy himself! Over his 82 years, he had the opportunity to immerse himself in different cultures as a world traveler. Back home, he stayed active with a number of local organizations, including the Palestine First Christian Church, the Robinson Elks, and the Robinson American Legion Post #69. He also spent countless hours in his garden and was blessed to share in the fruits of his labor with his many friends and neighbors. They could attest to Carl's love of people. It could be said that he never met a stranger, and that he was more than willing to talk to anyone who would listen! Though on the outside, he was known to be more than a little boisterous, there was so much more behind his spirited exterior. At his core, Carl Hulse gave out of a generosity of spirit that pointed to the faith out of which he lived his life; a faith that has been made sight. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Reva & Wyatt Reynolds (Palestine, IL); by his special nieces & their husbands, Jodi & Steve Bunn (Princeton, IA) and Janna & Brad Surrells (Palestine, IL); by his grand-nieces, Kendyl Surrells (Owensboro, KY) and Karli Bunn, DeKalb, IL; and by his grand-nephews, Avery Bunn (Eldridge, IA) and Heath Surrells (Robinson, IL). Due to the newly-increased public safety measures being enforced by the State of Illinois, services will be private. Carl will be laid to rest in the Pleasant View Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to either "Crawford County 4-H" or to the "Palestine First Christian Church". Checks may be mailed to: Goodwine Funeral Homes 303 E Main St Robinson, IL 62454
