C. Delane Guyer

August 17, 1947 — October 11, 2022

C. Delane Guyer, 75, of the Annapolis, IL area, died on October 11, 2022, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Born August 17, 1947, in Robinson, IL, he was the son of Leo Guyer, Jr. and Leola (Gurley) Guyer of Quaker Lane vicinity. He was raised in Pleasant Grove Friends Church on Quaker Lane, east of Annapolis, IL, where he was instilled with an abiding faith in Christ that would carry him throughout his 75 years.

A 1965 graduate of Hutsonville High School, Delane would further his education at Southern Illinois University, where he graduated in 1969. He worked at Marathon in Robinson from 1969-1973 and Meadowlark Farms, a division of AMAX Coal Company in Sullivan, IN, from 1973-1978 before going into full-time farming from 1978-1990. He was a well-known Pioneer sales rep from 1978-2013, with whom he was a District Sales Assistant for five years.

As a youth, Delane was active in 4-H and continued to attend livestock shows throughout his life. He particularly enjoyed watching his granddaughters Ashtin and Nalaney show cattle, sheep, and pigs. He also loved watching Sydney, Haley, and Garrett play in their various sports and piano recitals and was especially fond of deer hunting with Garrett. Lexi, Luke, and Levi loved driving the Kubota back to the Hickory Holler Campground behind their granddad's house.

A faithful and active member of Dayspring Christian Fellowship Church since 1985, he was a dedicated trustee, board member, and song leader. In fact, Delane was a lifelong lover of gospel music, having been raised in a home where it was everyday entertainment. He sang with his parents and siblings until his father's death, at which time the four siblings began singing together as The Guyer Family. The family would go on to sing in many, many area churches and surrounding states for the next 20 years. Delane's love of God's music never left him, as he sang nearly every Sunday at Dayspring Church and at many of the gospel sings held at the barn at Hickory Holler Campground, located on the family farm east of Annapolis. As his lungs began to fail, it was discovered that he had Pleural Mesothelioma, but Southern Gospel music would always live in his heart.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise "Elle" (Beard) Guyer, whom he married on December 28, 1968, at Zion United Methodist Church in Marshall, IL. Also surviving are his three sons and daughters-in-law, David (Lucy) Guyer of Flat Rock, IL, Chad (Shanna) Guyer of West York, IL, and Matt (Jessica) Guyer of Washington, IL. He was "Granddad" to Sydney Guyer (fiancé, Hayden Carter), Garrett Guyer, Haley Guyer, Ashtin Guyer, Nalaney Guyer, Lexi Guyer, Luke Guyer, and Levi Guyer. Two sisters survive: Yvonne (Doug) Newlin of Hutsonville and Joan (Glenn) Briggs of Robinson; and one brother, Tony (Janna) Guyer of West York. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Debbie Beard of Crown Point, IN, Greg (Teresa) Beard of Marshall, and Ron (Nancy) Beard of Chillicothe, OH; by many nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as a special church family of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Guyer, Jr. (1973) and Leola (Gurley) Guyer (2011); his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob (1991) and Violet Beard (2003); his great-nephew, Alex Nading (2007); and his brother-in-law, Darrell Beard (2013).
