Byron "Keith" Lingle, 60, of Robinson, IL, died Saturday, March 7, 2020, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 8, 1959, in Louisville, KY, the son of William "Bill" Lingle & Nadine (Sturgill) Lingle. Keith grew up in the Louisville area and was a 1977 graduate of Jeffersontown High School. He would go on to answer his country's call, joining the U.S. Marines, with whom he would spend the next twenty and a half years of his life serving as a cook. These years found Keith seeing the world. He spent two tours of duty in Okinawa and actively participated in humanitarian missions to Somalia and Haiti. Stateside, he was stationed in Camp Pendleton and MCAS-Tustin in California, among others. Much of his time in the service, however, was spent in Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, and this served as his home away from home. Upon his retirement from the Marine Corps in 2002, he went to work as a kitchen supervisor for Illinois Department of Corrections for nearly 15 years until retiring on April 1, 2019. Away from work, he could often be found immersed in nature. He loved being outdoors, be that shooting guns, riding four-wheelers, or fishing. Time at home often found him playing computer games (while the medium was still in its infancy) or at the pool table, the latter being a great source of enjoyment in his later years. He also enjoyed time spent with his brothers in the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #348. Keith will be remembered as a jovial spirit who had an appetite for both good food and for life. His contagious smile and wonderful sense of humor will never be forgotten by his many friends and beloved family. He married Emma Bitangcor on September 15, 2017, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Monica & Vince Decker (Flat Rock, IL); by his son, Matthew & Shayna Lingle (Hutsonville, IL); by his grandchildren, Kolton Decker, Corbin Decker, Brooklynn Lingle, Jase Lingle, and Jasper Lingle; by his mother, Nadine Lingle (Louisville, KY); and by his brother, Todd & Belinda Lingle (Louisville, KY). He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Lingle. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:30 p.m. (CST) on Saturday, March 14th at the Goodwine Funeral Home (303 E Main St, Robinson, IL 62454). Immediately following his visitation, military and Masonic rites will be given by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #348, respectively. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #348", with envelopes available at the funeral home. His family will conduct a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. (EST) on June 6th at Cedar Springs Church of Christ (11904 Seatonville Rd, Louisville, KY 40291).
