Burt A. Ellis, 76 of Palestine, IL, died at 4:42 p.m. (e.s.t.) Friday, August 13, 2010 Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born March 27, 1934 in Monticello, NY, the son of Ross Ellis and Rena Levy Ellis. Burt was a €œFinance Manager€ for several automobile dealerships. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U. S. Navy. He was a lifetime member of the Oglesby V. F. W. Post #237; a 51 year member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69; the Palestine Preservation Projects Society, and the St. John€™s Catholic Church in Vincennes, IN.Burt married Rosemary Mathey on June 30, 1954 and she survives. He is also survived by his five children and their spouses, Pat and Chris Ellis, Peru, IL, Bill and Paula Ellis, Hutchinson, MN, Shari Sweeney, Carbondale, Tim and Toni Ellis, Rochelle, Tammy and Ted Dress, Belleville; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother John Ellis; his son-in-law, Patrick Sweeney; and his granddaughter, Faith Ellis.Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 17th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Military Honors will be conducted at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO at 2:00 pm. Wednesday, August 18th. Memorials may be made to the Palestine Preservation Projects Society with envelopes at the funeral home.
