Brent Wilson, 55, of Willow Hill, IL, passed away unexpectedly and was found on August 7, 2024 at his home. Born on September 7, 1968, in Effingham, IL, Brent's early years were a mosaic of experiences across the United States, owing to his father's service in the Air Force. The family settled in Willow Hill after his father's retirement in 1974.
Brent's career was as diverse as his upbringing, as he contributed to various businesses throughout his life. Despite enduring rough patches, Brent's life took a transformative turn when he found solace and direction in his walk with Jesus. This newfound purpose inspired him to establish his own enterprise, Brent's CSI - a carpet and flooring installation business that showcased his dedication and entrepreneurial spirit.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Brent was an avid collector and a master of the deal. Over the last two decades, he developed a passion for yard sales and flea markets, where his keen eye for bargains shone brightly. Brent had a knack for finding undervalued antiques and reselling them for profit. His family could attest that Brent also had a knack for crafting dishes that were as much a conversation starter as they were a...let's call it a "culinary surprise!" Speaking of surprises, Brent relished executing harmless practical jokes or sharing an off-the-cuff remark that would undoubtedly lead to shared laughter. He was quick to share his half-kidding, half-serious mantra, "Don't claim it!" whenever someone came to him describing an illness or anything that he construed as remotely negative. This reflected both his belief in the power of the tongue and his desire to protect those around him.
A man of the outdoors, Brent cherished the serenity of fishing, with trout and salmon being his favored catches. Though he hunted occasionally, it was the tranquility and challenge of the water that truly captivated him. While casting a line brought him joy, it was Jesus who brought him soul-satisfying contentment. Brent was a faith-filled man whose unique spirit and humor left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Though we will miss him dearly, we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Standing on this assurance, we can celebrate, knowing that we will see him again some glorious day.
Brent is survived by his sisters, Deborah Wilson and Deena Fear (both of Oblong, IL); his brother & sister-in-law, Mark & Julie Wilson (Noble, IL); by four nieces, three nephews, and their families; as well as several cousins. His former wife, Debbie (Watkins) Wilson, with whom he shared a bond from 2012 to 2019, also survives him. Brent was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence William Wilson & Iris J. (Spink) Wilson; by his sister, Cheryl Wilson; by his brother-in-law, Mike Fear; and by his grandparents.
Brent is to be cremated, and a private family committal service will be held at Mound Cemetery at a later date. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of these arrangements.
