Bonnie Fern Hudson, 95, of Palestine, IL, passed away February 8, 2022, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. She was born September 5, 1926, in Montgomery Township, Crawford County, IL, the daughter of Orland Lloyd & Stella Edith (Powden) Adams. Though she and her siblings grew up south of Heathsville, Bonnie eventually made her home in Palestine with Keith Hudson, whom she married on December 12, 1946. Before long, her young family would move into the house in Leaverton Park, tasked with taking care of the grounds as her father had done before them. She was also employed at the bobby pin factory for a time and served as the secretary for the Palestine Cemetery for many, many years. Though she worked hard in all of these capacities, it was evident that her life's work revolved around her house and all those who called it "home". The Hudson home may not have been a mansion, but it was immaculate, inside and out. Inside, this talented seamstress busied herself with needlework, that is, when she wasn't working a crossword puzzle! Every year, the familiar and sweet aroma of her famous persimmon cookies and pudding would fill the house. While it is true that she enjoyed these things, few things brought more life to her living than being outside, tending to her flower garden or caring for her many creatures. A great lover of animals, she took in not a small number of cats, dogs, horses, donkeys...the list could go on...throughout her 95 years! For as much as she loved her furry friends, it was apparent that her family had her heart. After all, Bonnie was a dedicated daughter, a supportive sister, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a doting aunt, and will be remembered for pouring so much of herself into each of these roles. Those she leaves behind will remember her life as one marked by love, joy, and faith. A woman of faith, she and her sister Mary publicly displayed their trust in Jesus by getting baptized in the Wabash River. Though she was a longtime member of the Palestine First Christian Church and even taught Sunday school there for a time, it was in the way she lived her life that pointed others to Christ. We find great comfort knowing that, on Tuesday morning, Bonnie Hudson found herself wrapped in her loving Savior's arms. There to meet her were her parents, Orland Lloyd & Stella Adams; her husband of 39 years, Keith Hudson; her brothers, Ray Adams and Fay Adams; and her sisters, Ola Myers and Avis McCord. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Crumpler; by her step-children, Jessica Crumpler, Josh Crumpler, and Dillon Crumpler; by her sister, Mary Creed; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 10th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to either the "Crawford County Humane Society" or to "Leaverton Park", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
