Bill Swaner, 93, of Robinson, IL, passed away on November 13, 2022, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. He was born September 10, 1929, in Honey Creek Township, Crawford County, IL, the son of Paul & Bessie (Stevens) Swaner. A 1948 graduate of Robinson High School, he would go on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Back home, he married his childhood sweetheart, Donavea "Donna" Brush, and they were united in holy matrimony on January 2, 1952.
He worked hard to provide for his young and growing family by way of a number of businesses, from L.S. Heath and Western & Southern, until finally landing a job at Marathon. At the refinery, he started in maintenance and was able to work his way up to operations before retiring after 29 years with the company. In addition to the good work he did at Marathon, Bill also established the Hebron Water District. It was at this time that he bought 40 acres of land that he would soon develop, building two homes and a pond that would be the spot where he would eventually teach his beloved grandchildren to fish. Relishing his role as grandfather was an exceptionally bright spot in what was a beautiful retirement.
In addition to quality time spent with his grandchildren, Bill also enjoyed richness in traveling, often to visit family. In addition to trips to Florida, California, Colorado, and Texas, he also took part in a two-week mission trip to Peru. A member of New Hebron Baptist Church since 1955, his church family (and anyone else blessed to know him) could attest to the fact that the man lived out of a deep and abiding faith in Jesus. We are so thankful that, by the grace of God, the life we affectionately remember will know no end. Until we meet again!
He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Robert & Glinda Swaner (Normal, IL); by his daughter & son-in-law, Susan & Michael Limpich (Ventura, CA); by his grandchildren & their spouses, Jenn Swaner, Rob & Katie Swaner, Meghan & Vince Smet, and Ben Limpich; by his great-grandchildren, Nicholas & Hannah Swaner, Matthew Swaner, Kat Swaner, Ana Swaner, Cullen & Anna Jolley, Kasen Jolley, and Kyler Smet; and by close friends, Bill & Darra Beard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul & Bessie Swaner; by his cherished wife of 69 years, Donna Swaner; by his brother, Charles "Chuck" Swaner; and by his sisters, Betty Swaner (in infancy), Mary Ann Tracy, and Frances Byers.
A private service will be held, and a live stream of Bill's service will soon be available on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream .
Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to "New Hebron Baptist Church", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
