Bernice Irene Dunlap

September 4, 1925 — January 21, 2021

Bernice Irene Dunlap, 95, a longtime resident of Robinson, IL, passed away peacefully at Citadel Health Care in Kankakee, IL, on January 21, 2021. She was born on September 4, 1925, in Flat Rock, IL, to Lester and Bertha Tohill. She was preceded in death by both parents; by four sisters: Faye Haner, Martha Wampler, Anna Mae Trout, and Edith Cox; by two brothers: Harry Tohill and Henry Tohill; by her husbands: Joseph Jordan, Edward Riley, and George Dunlap; and by her son-in-law, John Haraburda. Anyone blessed enough to know her could attest to the joy with which Bernice lived her life. She loved a good laugh and had a presence about her that simply lit up a room. This happiness could be attributed to her walk with God. A woman of faith, Bernice was a longtime member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church of Robinson, IL, where she was very active in the many functions of the church as well as its Anna Circle group. She was also a member of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549 Auxiliary. It was evident that Bernice loved to learn, as she enrolled in a number of classes at Lincoln Trail College, where she was educated in the arts of painting, ceramics, and even mechanics! She was well-versed in the kitchen as well, as evidenced by her infamous, mouth-watering cinnamon rolls. She was also an ace with knitting needles, Bernice having crafted together countless trinkets for her friends and family. We who are left behind are thankful for her 95 years but are even more grateful that it was filled with real living. Left to cherish her memory are her sister: Melva Williamson (Robinson, IL); her children: Linda Haraburda (Derby, KS); Katherine & Dick Miller (Kankakee, IL), Teresa & Chris Isbell (Lincoln, IL) and Stanley & Kelly Dunlap (Fairview Heights, IL); her grandchildren: Cheryl Toms (Derby, KS), Susan Finke (Colorado Springs, CO), Richard Miller (Champaign, IL), Justin Dunlap (Collinsville, IL), Amanda Gerkin (Metamora, IL), Ryan Dunlap (Moore, OK), Melissa Isbell (Stockton, IL), Jay Dunlap ( Fairview Heights, IL), and Bryan Isbell (Palo, IA); her eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with Rev. Judy Williams officiating. Under Phase 4 Mitigations, public attendance is allowed, but only up to 50 attendees. Thusly, social distancing measures will be in place, and it will be required that all visitors wear face coverings while in the building. Memorials may be made to either the “Robinson V.F.W.” or to the “Alzheimer’s Association”. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. A live stream of her service can be viewed on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream. Bernice will be laid to rest in the Tohill Cemetery.
