Barbara "Barb" Brown

May 23, 1937 — October 8, 2023

Barbara "Barb" Brown, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and beloved member of her community, passed away in Flat Rock, IL, on October 8, 2023, leaving behind a rich, love-filled life and innumerable fond memories. Born to Everett and Wilma Elsaline (Fuller) Baud on May 23, 1937, in Montgomery Township, Barb's life was a testament to her love for her family, her faith, and her passion for nurturing those around her.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her daughters Faye Tracy and Mindy Brown, grandsons Jamie Brown and Jimmy Brown, sisters Dorothy Simmers and Lois Stone, and her brother Kenny Baud. Their memories remained a beacon of light and love in Barb's life, fueling her desire to make every moment with her loved ones count.

Barb is survived by her children Tammy and Terry Pinkstaff, Bob Brown, and his significant other, Becky Newlin, Leroy Brown, Susie Osborn, and Missy Brown. A matriarch in every sense of the word, she also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, with another on the way, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Also mourning her departure are her son-in-law, Rick Tracy; her brothers, John D. Baud and Wayne Baud; her sisters, Lillie Robinson, Nina Woermann, and Nola Pinkstaff; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Each one has felt the warmth of Barb's love and the wisdom of her years.

Barb grew up in Flat Rock and was a 1956 graduate of Robinson High School. She poured her passion, hard work, and commitment into a variety of professional pursuits, including several years at the bobby pin factory, shoe factory, Fair-Rite, and Hershey. She also spent memorable years making donuts at IGA.

A woman of many talents and interests, Barb was known for her quilting and crochet work, creating beautiful pieces that embodied her love and care for others. Her home was always filled with laughter and love, as she enjoyed having her family around as much as possible. The sight of children running around and the sound of their joy filled her with contentment. She also had a special place in her heart for nature, particularly hummingbirds and birds, which she loved to watch and feed.

Her culinary skills were legendary, particularly her persimmon pudding and noodles. A longtime member of the South Union Church, she lived her faith daily, extending her kindness and care to others in the form of crocheted hats and scarves for the homeless.

Those who knew Barb will remember her as a loving, kind, and faith-filled woman, always ready to lend a hand, share a comforting word, or give a warm smile. Her legacy of love will continue to warm the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
