Arthur "Bud" Leggitt

April 23, 1930 — December 20, 2020

Arthur "Bud" Leggitt, Jr., 90, of Palestine, IL, died on December 20, 2020, at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Home in Robinson, IL. He was born April 23, 1930, in Palestine, the son of Arthur Leggitt, Sr. & Louise (Reynolds) Leggitt, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Marcella Liston on March 8, 1952, and she preceded him in death on October 15, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Maxine Turner and Doris Parker; and by his brother, Kenneth Leggitt. He married Janette (Salesberry) on April 16, 2000, and she survives. He is also survived by his children & their spouses, Linda & Dee Ham (Palestine, IL) and Dan Leggitt (Palestine, IL); by his grandchildren, Scott Ham, Christopher Ham, and Beth Stone; by three great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Bud was born and raised in Palestine and would go on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Back home, he got on as a dry freight driver with Marathon Oil Company and worked in this capacity until retiring on February 1, 1986. Never one to let dust settle, his retirement years found him working for a number of area farmers, as well as Turner Sand & Gravel and R&L Ready Mix. Community was particularly important to Bud, as evidenced by his involvement with the Lamotte Fire Department and Labor Day festivities in Palestine. In fact, he was the co-founder of the Saturday Morning Pancake Breakfast! Though he loved his hometown, he also found great joy in travel. With Marcella, he took in the sights and sounds of the Grand Old Opry; with Janette, he enjoyed the warmth of sunny Florida; and had even been to Hawaii a couple of times! No matter where he went, Bud was known to seek out the closest rodeo, a sport near and dear to his heart. Those who had the good fortune to know him could attest to not only the man's work ethic, but to his others-centered nature as well. In short, Bud Leggitt recognized that life is found not in what you take away, but in what you give away. We are thankful for the gift of this dear man's life. Due to the newly-increased public safety measures being enforced by the State of Illinois, funeral services will be private. However, a live stream of his service will be available to the public starting at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21st. This can be done on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream . Bud will be laid to rest in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
