Ardey D. Fitts

Ardey Fitts, 75, of Palestine, IL, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center, Robinson. He was born February 4, 1933 in Flat Rock, IL, the son of Harvey Fitts and Mabel Shidler Fitts. He served in the U. S. Air Force. He was a foreman at the Effingham Post Office and then retired as Postmaster for over 25 years from Wheeler Post Office.He married Sarah D. Hays June 20, 1954 and she survives. He is also survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Martin Kingery, Lake Wales, FL, Ardie Jean and John Ruholl, Dietrich, IL, Marilyn and Buck Walker, Jacksboro, TX, Cindy Carlen, South Haven, MS; his son, Gregory Fitts, Jacksboro, TX; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Lois Depoister, Mary Stortzum and Trudy Goeckner, all of Effingham and Naomi Taylor, Palestine.He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Anita Fitts; and his sister, Vonda Chapman.Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Palestine Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
