Alvin “Al” Kargle, 74, of Porterville, IL, died at 2:58 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019 in the comfort of his home. He was born June 14, 1945 in Midway PA, the son of William Kargle & Eloise (Romastan) Kargle, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Rob Kargle; a sister, Jean Orasco; and a nephew, Mark Kargle. He married Karon Brode on July 21, 1987, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughters & sons-in-law, Arlene & Dave Dewey (Homewood IL), Amie & Howard Gallois (Dwight, IL) and Andrea & Victor Watson (Hutsonville, IL); by his stepchildren & their spouses, Andrew Berscheid (Joliet, IL), Erika & Randy Lewis (Norco, CA), and Damien & Jasmine Berscheid (Urbana, IL); by 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; by his brothers & sister-in-law, Mike & Mary Kargle and William Kargle; as well as several nieces and nephews. Al grew up all over, but his family eventually settled in Joliet, where he graduated from Joliet Township High School. He went on to work for Caterpillar for 30 years before retiring in 1994. Never one to let dust settle, Al also drove a school bus in the South Wilmington and Robinson areas and also did maintenance work at Brookstone Estates in Robinson as well. He was involved in his community, both as a 9-year member of the Crawford County Sheriff's Auxiliary and as a member of the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #248. A man of faith, he was also a member of the Porterville Congregational Christian Church. His free time often found him fishing, a pastime that brought him countless hours of enjoyment. Al was, simply put, a character! He was the type of guy who could find humor in any situation, and truly enjoyed his life until the very end. He was also a constant source of help to those in need. May we who are left behind learn to live with the same decency and tenacity of spirit as was found in Al Kargle. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26th at the funeral home with his son-in-law, Victor Watson officiating the service. There will be time of remembrance, where family and friends will have the opportunity to reflect on Al’s life. In memory of Al’s love of dogs, memorials may be made to the “Crawford County Humane Society”, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
