Alice Bryans

Alice Rhine Bryans, 94, of rural Palestine, IL, died 9:33 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2009 at her residence. She was born May 20, 1915 in Broughton, IL, the daughter of Cloyd Rhine and Maud Donelson Rhine. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant View Church. Alice dearly loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. She was active in the Women’s Fellowship at Pleasant View Church. Music and playing the piano were very important to her. She loved her flowers and gardening and was a licensed beautician. Playing cards with family and friends provided many hours of enjoyment.Alice married Percy Bryans on July 3, 1940 and he survives. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sandy Bryans, Flat Rock; her 5 daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Ann Smith, Palestine, Amanda Kay and Jim Higgins, Tuscola, Frances and Robert “Jr.” McCord, Palestine, Paula and Rad Burkett, Palestine, and Mary Jo and Kevin Harris, Palestine; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 2 aunts; 5 nieces; 1 nephew; her brother-in-law and several cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Marion Rhine; and 1 sister, Helen Burnett.Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the East Union Cemetery, rural Palestine with Rev. Paul Phillips officiating.Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home, 949 County Rd. 1300 N., Carmi, IL 62821 or to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 520 S. 7th St., Vincennes, IN 47591. Envelopes will be available at the graveside service or at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine.
