Al Bennett, 78 of Robinson, IL, formerly of Marshall, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at Crawford County Convalescent Center in Robinson after an extended illness. He was born March 28, 1931 in Marshall, the son of Timothy Bennett and Pearl Wallace Bennett. He was employed at Marathon Refinery for 35 years retiring in 1985 as an Electrical Draftsman. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a 59 year member of the Robinson American Legion Post #4549, a 57 year member of the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188, a Charter member of the Oak Glen Golf Course, and a member of the Palestine First Christian Church.Al married Greta Earleywine on May 7, 1955 and she survives. He is also survived by 2 brothers-in-law, Van Earleywine, Palestine and Morgan Newlin, rural Hutsonville; 4 sisters-in-law, Winifred Earleywine, Springfield, Colleen Earleywine, Robinson, Betty Earleywine, Indinapolis, IN, and Phyllis Bennett , Denver, Co; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Rosemary High; and 3 brothers, Joseph T. Bennett, James R. Bennett, and Victor T. Bennett.Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Rev. Tom Akers and Gary Fasig are in charge of services. Burial is in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Palestine First Christian Church or to the Palestine Preservation Projects Society with envelopes at the funeral home.
