Shirley King, 80, of rural Hutsonville, IL, died at 3:56 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. She was born May 12, 1935, in Chester, IL the daughter of James Pearce & Madelin Richey Pearce, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, LeeAnn King; granddaughter, Tabitha Ikemire; by her sister-in-law, Cheryl Pearce and by her daughter-in-law, Denise King. Shirley married Maurice King in 1955 and he survives. She is also survived by her children & their spouses, Kristy King Burgess (Hutsonville, IL), Mike King (Hutsonville, IL), Pat & Patty King (Hutsonville, IL); 8 grandchildren Nicole & Eric Badger (Hutsonville, IL), Christopher & Dena Hardesty (Robinson, IL), Nicole King (Hutsonville, IL), Brianna King (Hutsonville, IL), Marc King (Flora, IL), and Ashlee & Andy Lomas (Olney, IL); eleven great-grandchildren; her brothers, Tom & Chloe Pearce (Hutsonville, IL), Rick Pearce (Robinson, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. She retired from Wal-Mart after working for 28 years behind the service desk. She touched the lives of hundreds of students as a school bus driver for Hutsonville CUSD #1 for 31 years. Shirley was an active member of the Canasta Club, and will be missed by the special friends she made there. She was also a member of the Hutsonville First Christian Church, and was formerly a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed several years of camping alongside with Maurice, having camped at several sites over the years, namely Deitz Lake, rural Center Point, IN. She was an avid reader, (especially dramas, romance and mystery books), and could often be found with a book in hand. Her friends will remember her love of Coca-Cola collectables, which would be apparent by merely walking into her home. Her children and grandchildren will remember her as a wonderful cook and baker, and will miss her delicious fried chicken and pie. Friends and family alike will remember the love and care she had and gave to her children and grandchildren, and she will forever be loved by all who knew her. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25th at the Hutsonville First Christian Church. Funeral services will follow the visitation and will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Bill Wilkinson officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Hutsonville Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Riley’s Children’s Hospital, with envelopes available at the church and at the funeral home.
