Sarah Marie Lindsay, 43, of Hutsonville, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Marshall Rehabilitation and Nursing in Marshall, IL, following a brief but valiantly fought health struggle. She was born on December 6, 1979, in Robinson, IL, the daughter of Bill & Loretta (Bailey) Mikeworth, who each played key roles in her life. She shared a love of crocheting and cooking with her mom, Loretta, and she often invited her parents over for dinner to try out a new recipe. Under Bill's tutelage, Sarah became well-versed in a number of specialties, from electrical wiring, plumbing, and carpentry to repairing broken appliances and driving tractors. He also taught her the value of hard work, a value which served her well throughout her life.
Over her career, Sarah was employed by a number of area businesses, including DORS Healthcare, where she worked as a CNA, and Ruler Foods, a part-time job she truly appreciated, as it presented her with opportunities to visit with customers as she checked them out or stocked shelves. However, it was evident that her calling in life was to be a school bus driver. Sarah loved the kids on Bus #11 and enjoyed nothing more than hearing their little stories. She was something of a storyteller herself and was known to bring light and joy to conversations through a well-timed joke (which she likely heard from the kids on her bus.)
Much of Sarah's free time was spent crocheting and sewing, and she created numerous memory bears that will be cherished for generations to come. Outside, she busied herself building fences, cutting firewood, or tending to her horses. An avid equestrian, her love of horseback riding led her to join the Crawford County Saddle Club. She was also a longtime member of the Central United Methodist Church in Oblong and was involved with 4-H through The Wild Things. She was a staple at Mikeworth's Flea Market as well, as she often came to help her dad catch chickens and ducks. In fact, she was always such a help to her parents and to anyone else in need. Those she knew well could attest to her big heart, as Sarah would give the shirt off her back to anyone without thought of herself. Her children, in particular, were the beneficiaries of the love Sarah so generously poured out. Together with her husband Dennis, they would adventure off to Dinky's Sale Barn nearly every Friday night, bringing home trinkets, treasures, and many, many precious memories. She also made many memories with her cherished step-grandchildren, who were each the apple of her eye. Our sweet memories of Sarah Lindsay will never die but will live on as her lasting legacy for as long as they have the breath to speak her name.
She married Dennis Lindsay on April 13, 2018, and he survives. She is also survived by her mother, Loretta Mikeworth (Oblong, IL); by her daughters & son-in-law, Brook & Daniel Newell (Vincennes, IN), Morgan Benton (Hutsonville, IL), and Brandy Benton (Hutsonville, IL); by her step-children, Jasmaine Switzer (Vincennes, IN) and Jessica Westfall (Bicknell, IN); by her sister & brother-in-law, Sherri & Dale Shew (Willow Hill, IL); by her half-siblings, Tina Mikeworth (Springfield, IL) and Jeff & wife Alice Mikeworth (Robinson, IL); by her nieces, Tonya & husband Stuart Cary (Greenville, KY), Kelly Shew & partner Coby Schlobohm (Evansville, IN), Katie Shew & fiance Seth Vick (Salem, IL), and Whitley Shew (Salem, IL); by her great-niece, Nova Rose Cary (Greenville, KY); by several other nieces, great-nieces & great-nephews, and cousins; and too many dear friends to mention. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Mikeworth, and by her niece, Crystal Ann Shew.
