Richard M. Van Doel, 77, of Palestine, IL died at 8:35 a.m. (E.S.T.) Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born May 14, 1933 in Tacoma, Washington, the son of Richard Henry Van Doel and Edna Peterson Van Doel. He served in the U. S. Army in Iceland. He worked 28 years at Budd Auto Parts Co. as a die press operator in Gary IN; worked 10 years at P. K. Engineering, Portage, IN; and 10 years at Adias Health Care, Mt. Carmel, IL. He was a member of the United Auto Workers and the Independent Order of Forresters for 40 years. Richard married Loretta Shanks on April 10, 1955 and she preceded him in death on May 17, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Karrie Dawn; and 3 sisters, Janet Rains, Dorothy Vaneman and Betty Bunekemper.He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Linda Van Doel, Avon, IN; his daughter, Vickie Mitchell, Palestine; 6 grandchildren, Bobbie Mitchell, Charleston, Debbie Brandt, Chicago, Rickie Mitchell, Martinsville, Sarah Horowitz, Washington, DC, Richard James Van Doel, Ball State University, Terri Miller, Lawrence, IN; 7 great grandchildren, Mitch Mitchell and Bailey Mitchell, both of Robinson, Jada Mitchell and Kiera Mitchell, both of Martinsville, Matthew Brandt, Chicago, Chase Miller, Lawrence, IN, Dalia Horowitz, Washington, DC; 4 sisters and brothers-in-law, George and Grace Stephan, Highland, IN, Barbara and Tom Bridgewater, Hutsonville, IL, Susie and Bill Scott, Palestine, Carol Mullins, CA; and 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Diane Mullins, Clinton, IN; Phillip and Jan Mullins, Springfield, Robert and Marie Mullins, Palestine.Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Hutsonville Cemetery, Hutsonville, IL. There will be no visitation. Rev. John Brand is in charge of services. Memorials may be made to the Crawford County Relay for Life, with envelopes at the gravesite or mailed to the Goodwine Funeral Home at P. O. Box 129, Palestine, IL 62451.
