Lyle D. Flenner

Lyle D. Flenner, 88, of Robinson, IL, died Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Magnolia Center in Robinson. He was born May 1, 1929 in Martinsville, IL, the son of Clarence & Louise (Thompson) Flenner, both of whom preceded him in death; he was also preceded in death by his brother, Carl Flenner; and by his son-in-law, Lester Briner. He married Mary Snider on September 20, 1953, and she survives. He is also survived by his children & their spouses, Doris & Rob Cawood (Robinson, IL), Joseph & Roye Ann Flenner (Odessa, TX), Julia Briner (Robinson, IL), Melvin & Debra Flenner (Jay, FL), and Susie Flenner Van Tassell (Houston, TX); by ten grandchildren; by five great-grandchildren; by his brother, James Flenner (Robinson, IL); by his sister, June Agan (Palestine, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Lyle proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Back home, he worked as a farm hand and was also a truck driver for Briggs Pottery. Away from work, he stayed busy doing yardwork for countless homes in Crawford County and was always seen on his Blue Ford tractor wearing his bib overalls. He was also an avid gardener, who kept a vegetable garden for most of his adult life. Hunting seasons saw Lyle hunting for rabbit, quail, and pheasant, which he enjoyed thoroughly for many, many years. In the winter months, he also kept busy weaving rugs. He will long be remembered as a thoughtful, hard-working man who lived life his way. Once you met Lyle Flenner, you never forgot him. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1st at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will follow and will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Larry McCormick officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Embarrass Cemetery, rural Edgar County.
