Janice Kay Turner

August 29, 1941 — December 4, 2024

Janice Kay Turner, 83, of Robinson, IL, passed away on December 4, 2024, at Robinson Rehab & Nursing, leaving behind a legacy of determination, strength, and love that inspired all who knew her.

Born on August 29, 1941, in Honey Creek Township, Crawford County, IL, Janice was the daughter of Lloyd & Lulu (Parrott) Lowrance. Life presented its first major challenge when she contracted polio as a child. Though the illness left her with lifelong braces on her legs, Janice refused to let it define her. She didn't walk until her younger sister, Norma, started toddling-but from that moment on, Janice was determined to stand on her own two feet! With the help of her beloved Aunt Pauline, who tirelessly worked with her on exercises, Janice overcame every obstacle with a grit that became her hallmark.

That same indomitable spirit carried her through a life filled with accomplishments and meaningful relationships. Janice grew up in the New Hebron area and built a career in healthcare, where she worked as a secretary at Schmidt Clinic and Dr. Hippensteel's office before becoming the office manager for the physical therapy department at Crawford Memorial Hospital. Her attention to detail, perseverance, and compassion for others made her a valued member of every team she joined.

Janice's determination extended far beyond the workplace. She was a steadfast and loving mother to her sons, Matt and Wes, and she poured herself into their lives. She never let the effects of polio slow her down, attending her kids' and later her grandkids' events with an energy that defied her physical limitations. Her grandchildren, Brayden and Braxtyn, were the light of her life. She cherished the daily moments, like getting Brayden off the school bus and watching Cardinals games together. Though she wasn't a baseball fan at first, Brayden's enthusiasm made her one, and she even called Busch Stadium annually to order matching calendars for the two of them. With Braxtyn, she shared quieter joys-playing board games, coloring, and sharing favorite finds from the Avon catalog.

Janice was always moving forward, always determined to make life better for those around her. She sold Avon for years, and her love for the products filled her home with hundreds of bottles and lotions. She never stopped caring for others, driving friends to appointments, and sending thoughtful cards to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones. Even in skilled care, her baggie of cards was never far from her reach, a testament to her unwavering thoughtfulness. In the end, Janice's life was a story of triumph over adversity, a reminder that challenges can be met with courage and a heart that beats for others. This determination will remain an enduring inspiration for her family and all who were privileged to know her.

She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Matt & Tara Turner of Robinson, IL; her grandchildren, Brayden W. Turner and Braxtyn L. Turner; two sisters, Norma & husband Rick Lowe of Robinson, IL, and Debra Servison of Oblong, IL; and her beloved Aunt Pauline & Uncle Tom Bailey of Robinson, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Richard Lowrance, and her son, Wesley Turner.

Honoring Janice's wishes, she will be cremated, and no public services will be held. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is entrusted with her care and arrangements.
