Edna Vanwinkle Mendenhall

Edna Marie Mendenhall, 89, of Robinson, IL, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Heritage Health in Robinson. Edna was born January 11, 1925 in Oblong, IL, the daughter of William & Elizabeth VanWinkle. On March 29, 1943, she married Purl Mendenhall in Robinson, IL. He passed away on February 26, 1993. Survivors include sons & daughters-in-law, David & Fairy Mendenhall (Martinsville, IL), Don & Cynthia Mendenhall (Robinson, IL), Doug & Jody Mendenhall (Robinson, IL), and Dale Mendenhall (Robinson, IL); two sisters, Mayme Deatherage (Oblong, IL) and Julia Bradbury (Robinson, IL); sister-in-law, Norma VanWinkle (Casey, IL); daughter-in-law, Karen Mendenhall (Robinson, IL); her grandchildren, Davey Wright, Daryn Mendenhall, Dwain Mendenhall, Debbie Mendenhall, Dennis & Molly Mendenhall, Daniel & Amy Mendenhall, Matt & Tiffany Mendenhall, Angie & Shawn Brown, Caleb & Jessica Mendenhall, Courtney Mendenhall, Kyndal Mendenhall, Kirbie Mendenhall; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Darrel Mendenhall; her brother, Leroy 'Bud' VanWinkle; a daughter-in-law, Laurel Mendenhall; and infant granddaughter, Cierra Mendenhall. Edna was a member of the New Hebron Baptist Church. She worked as a cook at the Porterville Grade School, and she also worked at the Ettlebrick Shoe Company, P.N. Hirsch, Oblong Grade School, and Lincoln Trail College. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson with Jack Clay & Lee Gurley to officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Oblong Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the New Hebron Baptist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
