Derek Allen Turner, 28, of Robinson, IL died at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by those he loved. He was born April 10, 1985 in Robinson, the son of Dustin Turner & Debra Coleman Turner.Derek was very active throughout his life. Among other jobs, he delivered the newspaper in Palestine for several years in his youth. After graduating Palestine High School in 2004, he joined the Army National Guard€™s Lawrenceville Unit, and was active until 2010, having served all over the state and overseas. While in the Guard, he obtained his EMT-Basic license, which served him well as he was hired by United Life Care with whom he became a paramedic in 2009. In 2010, he started working for the Robinson Fire Department full-time, where he worked alongside his brother Devin. He was also a member of the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #348 and the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188.He enjoyed life. Derek loved to fish and hunt, and enjoyed construction and remodeling, particularly to his home. He loved to help people, but he also really loved to play practical jokes on people, a trait that stayed with him to the end.Derek married Jennifer McCoy on April 26, 2008 and she survives. He is also survived by his parents; his step-dad, Melvin Kleinschmidt (Robinson); his brothers & sisters, Daron & Rhonda Turner (St. Joseph, IL), Devin €œOpie€ Turner (Robinson), Michiala and Allyson Turner (Oblong); his grandparents, Moonyeen Turner (Palestine), Bill Turner (Palestine), his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Mark & Teresa McCoy (Flat Rock); his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Ashley & Jake Williamson (Palestine); two nieces, Isabella and Addison Turner; two nephews, Sammy Turner and Jason Brown; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Franklin & Ina Coleman; his aunt, Brenda Kay Chambers; and his cousins, Cassie Coleman and Brandon Fear.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson with Pastor David Hyde officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4th at the funeral home. Masonic rites will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. following the visitation. Memorials may be made to Toys for Tots, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
