Dennis Daugherty, 88, of West Union, IL, died on Saturday, June 20, 2015 in the comfort of his home with his loving wife of 68 years and children at his bedside. He was born May 31, 1927, the son of Neal Daugherty & Lola (Dennon) Daugherty. Dennis served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Dennis in the Pacific Theatre. Back stateside, he was a fisherman for many years and then later went into farming. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting in southern Illinois with family and friends. Dennis also enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping (with his Holiday Rambler group), and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the West Union First Baptist Church, a 50-year member of York Lodge #313, the Valley of Danville Scottish Rite, the American Legion, the V.F.W. and had served on the Hutsonville School Board. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; two sons, Neal Daugherty (Okeechobee, FL) and Brad & Debbie Daugherty (West Union, IL); two daughters, Barbara Mendenhall (West Union, IL) and Denise & Gary Cox (West Union, IL); 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, with a third due in October. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neal & Lola Daugherty; son David Daugherty; daughter Teresa “Na” Daugherty; two brothers, Leonard Daugherty and Dr. William Daugherty; and sister Betsy Harris. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23rd at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union. Funeral services will follow the visitation and will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday at the funeral home with Bro. Randy Nave officiating the service. Burial with military rites will follow in the York Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice or to the West Union First Baptist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
